Obituary for Donald R. "Donnie" Roberts

Donald R. "Donnie"  Roberts
Donald R. (Donnie) Roberts, age 76, of Mason Lane, Loudon, passed away April 10, 2017 at Fort Sanders Regional Hospital. Donnie was a member of Blairland Baptist Church; attended Loudon Freewill Baptist and Riverview Baptist. He was born in Loudon on February 11, 1941 at the home of his grandfather, R.L. Scarbrough. Donnie has served the families as funeral director for over sixty years. He began working while in grammar school in the late 50’s, starting with Harvey Hawkins. He was a valued employee and friend of Loudon Funeral Home, since it’s beginning, in November 1983. All through the years, families could depend that each of their families’ services were carried out at their request, and made sure that every request wasn’t overlooked. Many friends were made and to this day a lot of families still call upon Donnie. He loved his work and enjoyed every minute helping families. He was a LHS graduate, Class of 1959. Preceded in death by his father, Frank Roberts; mother Flora (Bo) Scarbrough Roberts; sister, Judy Roberts Humphreys and husband Hugh; brother-in-law, George Bowden; nephew, Thomas Bowden; sister-in-law, Jewel Cardin McKee; father and mother-in-law, Jim and Willie Blankenship McKee. Survivors: loving wife of 16 years, Betty McKee Smallen Roberts; sister, Jane Bowden, Loudon; nephew, Jason Humphreys and children, Haley, Dylan and Ella Grace, of Loudon; step-children, Cathy and Joe Waggoner, of Seymour, Rick Smallen and friend, Rita, Mike and Jodie Dalton Smallen, of Madisonville; grandchildren, April, Jesse, Riley, Kendyll and Tyler Smallen, of Madisonville, Nathan, Leah and Miracle, of Athens, Beth, Sara and David Waggoner; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jack McKee and friend Francis Hampton, Austin and Mildred McKee, Shirley and Freddy Atkins, and Donnie and Donna McKee, all of Madisonville; and loving cat, Tinker. Funeral service will be 7:00 pm Thursday, at Loudon Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Jon Henson, Rev. Gene Farmer, Rev. Donnie Dalton and Rev. Carl Jenkins officiating; Eulogies by Harold Amburn, Joyce Blair Fields and Stanley Blair. Interment 11:00 am Friday, at Steekee Cemetery. The family will receive friends 4:00 - 7:00 pm, prior to the funeral service. Loudon Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. www.loudonfuneralhome.net
